******25 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH******

Fly Tipping is back !

A few years ago we had a serious problem at the bottom of Gatcombe Road with tenanted properties in Mercers Road dumping and fly - tipping in our street. Improved street lighting helped a lot but with the recession the problem appears to have come back again. Packaging, old sofas and mattresses are the prime materials it seems and lt's to be hoped the culprits are caught and prosecuted as our council has a first class record on cleaning and will freely remove these items for residents if asked to do so - so no excuses

CRIMINALS GOING UNPUNISHED DUE TO LACK OF POLICE INTEREST ?

 ....a note just received

"We have CCTV cameras on the front and side of our house and one of our cameras part overlooks the end of Gatcombe Road - for future reference - the cameras record 24/7 and if anything happens that you would like us to take a look back over our cameras for, this will not be a problem as long as you can give us a time-scale as we would obviously have to look back in real time to see anything worth seeing. We can only see the end of Gatcombe Road towards Tytherton Road, but sometime the culprits are seen escaping down into our road which may be of help.

As an example, we were away for February half term (10th - 17th February) and on our return we found that our van had been broken into outside our house, consequently we had 7 days worth of footage to go through to see who had done it - this took a considerable amount of time, even on fast forward.  To our surprise, during the playback, we witnessed a very organised "gang" or party of four men with a car slowly driving in the lead, looking under and around every car parked on either side of Tytherton Road, for spare wheels.  This happened on 14th February (obviously a Valentines present LOL :) @ 11.25pm, also on the same footage @ 3am there is a man struggling to carry a large Plasma TV (obviously stolen - again must be a Valentine present!), walking past our house, in fact he stops outside our house to check behind him and re-adjust his head and face covering before walking off.  Finally on 15th February @ 1pm in the broad daylight, we capture the two men who break into our van (which incidentally is relatively new, bought in October 2011 and has secure locks and central locking), they take approximately 11 seconds to force the lock out and open the doors, but fortunately the alarm goes off and they leave in the car that they pull up in.  Incidentally the dark car was parked further down in Gatcombe Road between No's 1 - 5 I reckon, before pulling out and driving down to the front of our van before the two men get out and break in.

Obviously we have contacted the police regarding all three incidents and predictably, they do not seem very interested, saying they may contact us and come by to pick up the footage, but as yet we have not heard from them.

The reason I am passing this information on is that some of the Gatcombe residents may have, in the past, had their spare wheels from their vehicles taken, especially the sort of vehicles that keep the spare wheels under the rear of the car as standard, I know I have, from my new Ford KA within a week of it being parked outside our house (well when it was new way back in December 2002).

I can send you the footage of all three incidents if you would like to take a look, it also shows the angle of the view from the camera that gets the end of Gatcombe Road in view - to be of help in future."

The local Budgens in Campdale Road

This independently verified public poll was conducted by Bravenet Web services for www.Gatcombe.info over four weeks in October

SECURITY: To prevent this poll being "loaded" ( cheating by using multiple entries) the system only accepted ONE vote from one unique computer or internet device . Poll closed on November 2nd though detailed data can still be viewed online for a short while from the links to Bravenet at the bottom of this page

We have received a large  postbag on this poll. The  majority of complainants said that they were not consulted despite our widely circulating the poll details to as many people as we could reach. An editorial response can be found here.
